Petition

We live near the Ladbrokes shop at 415 Durnsford Road and are fed up with the state of the weed-strewn forecourt to the side and the cracked concrete at the front; it makes our neighbourhood look like a dump. Please sort it out, Ladbrokes.

I think that the Durnsford Road Ladbrokes site is revolting, and is by far the worst thing about our neighbourhood.

I wrote to both Ladbrokes and Stephen Hammond MP in February of last year, complaining that the shop was an eyesore and a health hazard. Stephen Hammond replied that he had spoken to Merton council about it, while Steve Potter (London Regional Manager for Ladbrokes) called me to apologise for the state of this shop. They removed some graffiti and trimmed the weeds, but no attempt has been made since then to keep the site clear of their customers’ empty beer cans and take-away cartons.

We moved to Mount Road in October and it’s been great. The only unpleasant aspect is having to walk past Ladbrokes every day!

  4. It was ‘better’ when they had the advertisement board up there, then at least they’d come and clear it every now and then but since its been removed no one bothers.

I wrote to Merton council re. this site and the everpresent mess way back in Feb 2006 (also copied to 3 local councillors). Took numerous letters and phone calls and then 5 months or so for them to clean and promise that they would monitor the situation. I originally suggested that they should plant some ground cover and maintain it – no luck.

The place is still a complete mess and health/hygene hazard with all the half eaten take-away cartons lying aroound.

I agree it’s an eyesore, and in general the top end of Mount Road is pretty scruffy – including the street name. I would love to see the area planted over, and have occasionally thought of asking to put a few seeds or bulbs in myself. But I guess the only thing that would stop people throwing their beer cans etc in there is to concrete over that space.
